Zoe Saldana

Zoe Saldana was born Zoe Yadira Zaldana Nazario on June 19, 1978 in New Jersey, U.S.A. At the age ten, her family moved to the Dominican Republic for seven years. Zoe had won a scholarship to study ballet, modern, jazz, and Latin dance at the highly recognized ECOS Espacio de Danza Academy, after which she returned to the United States, settling in New York. Zoe then studied acting with the improv Faces Theater Troupe, a group that held plays to explore significant themes for teenagers, concerning drugs, domestic violence and promiscuity. While attending another theater group, the New York Youth Theater, she appeared in a popular rendition of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, where she was spotted by an agent who signed her to appear in the television drama "Law and Order" (1999). A year later, her dancing and acting training proved invaluable for her film debut as Eva Rodriguez, a youthful and headstrong ballet dancer in "Center Stage" (2000). The next year, she acquired a supporting role along with Kirsten Dunst in the teen comedy, "Get Over It."

Zoe then appeared in a hip-hop action drama along with rapper Nelly, "Snipes" (2001). With a growing youthful fan base, Zoe was chosen to be the best buddy of Britney, in the film debut for the pop star, "Crossroads" which was made in 2002. Her next movie, "Drumline" (2002) earned Zoe a nomination for an MTV Movie Award (Best Kiss, shared with actor Nick Cannon). Her next role was in the highly popular Johnny Depp vehicle, "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" (2003) in which she played a female pirate. Afterwards came a rock musical "Temptation" (2003) and the big budget Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks 2004 movie, "The Terminal." Zoe continues to land significant roles in major films. .15hqqw.
