Vanessa Marcil

Vanessa Marcil was born Vanessa Ortiz in Indio, California on the 15th of October, 1969. Her father was of Mexican descent and her mother's origins were from France, Portugal, and Italy. Named after actress, Vanessa Redgrave, Vanessa grew up in a troubled home which led to her own arrests and appearances in juvenile hall. After graduating from high school, she moved to Newport Beach, California where she began acting classes, performing in a variety of theatre productions, including "The Miracle Worker," "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" and "Pygmalion." She then captured a prized role on the soap opera General Hospital in 1992. As Brenda Barrett, the struggling actress won three daytime Emmy Award nominations, finally winning in 2003 as an "Outstanding Supporting Actress." In 1997, she was named the Hottest Female Star by the Soap Opera Digest Awards, and the next year they proclaimed her the "Outstanding Lead Actress."

Vanessa left General Hospital after 6 years, appearing in a made-for-tv movie, and acquiring a recurring guest role on the Steven Spielberg police drama, "High Incident." She then joined Beverley Hills 90210 in 1998 as Gina Kincaid where she remained for two seasons. Her first feature film was "The Rock" (1996) along with Sean Connery and Nicholas Cage. Three years later she appeared in two independent films, "Nice Guys Sleep Alone," and "This Space Between Us."

An actress who knows the value of charitable work from her own troubled background, she has supported Battered Women and their children, appearing in charity events and contests such as Wheel of Fortune. Marcil next starred in the television series, "Las Vegas," while being featured in numerous men's magazines, where she has been named in Top 100 Hot lists. She had been named by People Magazine in 1995 as one of the Fifty Most Beautiful People. .15hqqw.
