Thalia Miranda

Thalia was born Ariadna Thalia Sodi Miranda on August 26, 1972 in Mexico City, the youngest daughter of five children. After enrolling in classical ballet, she transferred her athletic skills to dancing and acting. She studied piano at the Instituto Mexicano de Musica, joining a music group who appeared in festivals and released a number of albums. In 1984, she joined two more musical groups, finally acquiring a spot as a chorus girl in "Grease." When the lead singer of the group Timbiriche left the band, Thalia took over the lead.

It was at this time that Thalia decided to emulate her elder sister, by beginning an acting career, and starting out in soap operas. When her musical group broke up, Thalia visited Los Angeles for one year, returning to Mexico to perform as a solo artist where she released her self-titled debut album. The singer-actress then co-hosted a popular Spanish variety show, and followed up with roles in popular soaps in the early 1990s. Then came the 1995 release of "En Extasis," an album that remained number one for many weeks, and was a hit internationally. Her third album, "Amor a la Mexican" (1997) was equally successful, bringing with it many honors for the star, including a declaration in Los Angeles that April 25 should be "Thalia Day," a wax figure of the star in her native Mexico City, and once being chosen Queen of the Miami Carnival.
