Rebecca St. James is a Christian singer, songwriter, and author. Born in Sydney, Australia on July 26, 1977, as Rebecca Smallbone, she was the oldest of seven children to David and Helen Smallbone. When Rebecca was only thirteen years old she became the opening act for Christian Contemporary Music (CCM) singer, Carman, when he was touring Australia. It wasn't long before she had released her first album, "Refresh My Heart." A year later, at age fourteen, she signed with ForeFront Records and moved to the United States, changing her name to St. James on request of the Record Label. Eight long hard years later, Rebecca made it to the top, winning a Grammy Award for Best Rock Gospel Album.

In 1994, at the age of sixteen, Rebecca debuted to the world with her self-titled album, followed two years later by "God" (1996) and "Pray" (1998). Each album became progressively more successful, until the girl, who looks a lot like Julia-Louis Dreyfuss ("Elaine" on the Jerry Seinfeld television sitcom), was at the forefront of an inspirational crusade throughout the Christian world.

In a 2003 Rock Opera Rebecca St. James performed the role of Maggie, a modernized version of Mary Magdalene. Author of many compositions of her own, Rebecca may be most well known for the single "Wait For Me" from her 2000 album, "Transformed," which encouraged teenagers to wait until they were married before commencing a physical relationship. The song became a hit and was promoted on the television series, "The O.C." Later, Rebecca wrote her first book, "Wait for Me: Rediscovering the Joy of Purity in Romance" at a time when daytime television was pursuing the problems on single mothers and streets gangs, known to be caused to much extent by children without fathers.

Rebecca has also performed on the soundtrack for "The Chronicles of Narnia," while still maintaining a hectic schedule of upwards of 200 concerts a year to appreciative audiences and sold-out concert halls.
