Rebecca DeMornay

Rebecca De Mornay, an American actress is best known for her role as the nanny with the dark personality in the 1992 movie "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle." (The film upset career nannies who considered the role to misrepresent the otherwise caring and significant profession, only going to prove the effectiveness of Rebbeca's performance.)

Rebecca was born in Santa Rosa, California on August 29, 1962. After her stepfather died, when she was only five years old, her mother and half-brother moved to Europe where she was raised. Graduating from a German-speaking high school in Austria, Rebecca attended college in the U.K. By this time she was fluent in German, French, and English. After school, she returned to the USA where she studied acting at the Lee Strasberg Institute. Later, she became an apprentice at Francis Ford Coppola's Film Studio. Her debut film was the 1982 Francis Ford Coppola effort, "One From the Heart." It was followed the next year by the 1983 hit Tom Cruise vehicle, "Risky Business." As a seductive call-girl, she received much critical praise, and ultimately ascended to the attention of audiences everywhere.

Other feature films that Rebecca DeMornay appeared in to critical acclaim, include: "Backdraft" with Kurt Russell (1981), "The Runaway Train" with Jon Voight (1985) and "The Trip to Bountiful" with Geraldine Page (1985).

Television work includes the tragic character in Dominick Dunne's "An Inconvenient Woman" (1991), the role of Arlie in "Getting Out" (1994), a remake of "The Shining" (1997), and Hallmark Hall of Fame's "Night Ride Home" with Ellen Burstyn (1999). On stage, Rebecca Demornay starred as Billie Dawn in "Born Yesterday" (1988), Charlotte Corday in "Marat/Sade" (1990) at the Williamstown Festival, and as Anna in "Closer" (2000) at the Mark Taper Forum. Rebecca began work as a director with a segment of the eerie science fiction television series, "The Outer Limits" (1995).
