Natalie Gulbis
Natalie Gulbis is a golfing star who was born in Sacramento, California
on January 7, 1983. Natalie was on the links at the age of four, being
taught by her father. A few years later, she won her first tournament
at age 7. In high school, Natalie excelled at sports, her strengths
being in gymnastics, diving and golf, where she played on the boys team.
When she was only fourteen years old, Natalie won the California State
Women's Amateur tournament, having placed second the previous year. She
became the youngest player ever to qualify for an LPGA tournament,
starting out as an amateur when she was 14. With impressive high school
scores, Natalie won a scholarship to Arizona State University in 1999,
their golfing team being the defending NCAA champs. In her first year,
Natalie won three tournaments, and the next year qualified for the US
Women's Open, deciding shortly thereafter to turn pro at age 18.
Natalie had a surprise in store for the golfing circuit, deciding to
release calendars, first for 2004, and then for 2005, just before the
2004 U.S. Women's Open. The Natalie Gulbis calendar, showing Natalie
Gulbis in bikini, as well as other athletic poses didn't sit well with
the US Golfing Association, and they barred it from the event. Golf
Canada allowed the calendar, and it wasn't long before Natalie was
posing for magazines, eventually placing 97th on the poll of the magazine's
100 Sexiest Women in 2005. Soon Natalie had parlayed the attention into
a reality television show on The Golf Channel, The Natalie Gulbis Show.
Although not able to win a tournament as yet, Natalie had a successful
2005 season, finishing in sixth place on the money list with more than a
million dollars in prizes. She has also negotiated sponsorship
contracts with a number of advertisers, including Adidas and Amstel
Light.
