Kirsten Dunst
Kirsten Dunst was born Kirsten Caroline Dunst on April 30, 1982 in Point
Pleasant, New Jersey, to a German medical services executive (father)
and a Swedish artist and former art gallery operator (mother). Kirsten,
nicknamed "Kiki", began acting at an early age, appearing in television
commercials before she was four years old. At age 6, she appeared in a
Saturday Night Live episode as the granddaughter of President George
H.W. Bush (played by Dana Carvey). It was years later, that she would
become a host of the famous show. At age 8, she received a credited big
screen role playing alongside Bruce Willis and Melanie Griffith in "The
Bonfire of the Vanities" (1990). It was to be the first of many
significant Kirsten Dunst pictures. Three years later, at the age of 11,
she played an alien in a 1993 episode of "Star Trek: The Next
Generation," as Hedril in the episode called, "Dark Page". Less than a
year later, still at age 11, she won out over Christina Ricci for the
role of Claudia in the intense and critically acclaimed feature film,
"Interview with the Vampire," along with Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, and
Antonio Banderas. For the role, she won an MTV Movie Award for
"Breakthrough Performance."
Since then, Kirsten has appeared in a number of significant and popular
films, including "The Virgin Suicides," (1999), "Bring It On" (2000),
as well as "Spider-Man" and its sequel, playing the role of Mary Jane
Watson, Peter Parker's (Spiderman's) love interest. In 2002, Kirsten
won a Best Actress award at the "Mar de Plata Film Festival" as Marion
Davies in "The Cat's Meow." In the latter movie, she was a singer as
well as an actress, having made her singing debut the previous year in
the film, "Get Over It." Kirsten was nominated for a Golden Globe as a
Best Supporting Actress, as well as capturing international attention
from both critics and audiences. Other notable roles for the young
actress include the unique science fantasy film, "Jumanji" (1995) as
well as a voice acting role in the 1997 animated film, "Anastasia."
