Jeannie Ortega

Jeannie Ortega was born Jeannette Ortega in Bushwick, Brooklyn, New York on November 19, 1986. Best known as a hip hop performer, the girl with the Puerto Rican roots, has also engaged in songwriting, dancing, and acting. A graduate of the Brooklyn High School of The Arts, Jeannie performed in local parks in a children's singing group (Sugar and Spice; she was Spice). Growing up in the midst of a dangerous street environment, the young girl was driven by a sense of responsibility and unwavering ambition, and by age sixteen, she had made her first record which made it to the movie soundtrack, "Love Don't Cost a Thing."

From there, Jeannie acquired a recording deal with Hollywood Records, eventually to release her debut album, "No Place Like Brooklyn," on which she wrote the majority of the songs. Her first single, "So Done", was produced by Soul Shock and Karlin, a duo who have been responsible for hits by Whitney Houston and Fantasia of American Idol fame. Her other major single hit is "Crowded," featuring fellow artist Papoose. Drawing from R&B, pop, and hip hop sources, Jeannie has identified herself as a "Hip Pop" artist who has been greatly influenced and inspired by Mariah Carey. Her latin roots and powerful desires portend that this young artist has a career-of-significance, still in the throes of being forged.
