Elsa Benitez
Elsa Benitez was born on December 8, 1977
(Year of the Snake)
in Hermosillo, Mexico.
In 1995, in Costa Rica, Central America, she won a model search
competition which impelled her to follow the path of modelling as a
profession. She had always idolized Linda Evangelista and her dream
became a reality, the publicity from the competition opening doors
for the beautiful young girl, initially in her homeland of Mexico, and
later on in the high fashion centers of New York and Europe. A year
after winning the competition, Elsa was appearing regularly on the
covers of Vogue Italy (3 times in total throughout that year). She
signed with the famous Elite Model Management and quickly contracted to
appear on the covers of the most important fashion magazines, including
Marie Claire, Glamour, ELLE, and Harper's Bazaar.
Elsa was a natural for advertising campaigns, including Oscar de la
Renta, Valentino, Macy's and Victoria's Secret catalog. Of course, the
true proof of having arrived was to be selected to appear on the cover
of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition (2001). Elsa wed a former
basketball player, Rony Seikaly of the NBA. Although she has taken
acting lessons and is hoping to make the big step up to the feature film
industry or to regular television work, she has yet to advance beyond a
minor television role and a music video appearance for Enrique Iglesias
in 2002.
