Claudette Ortiz
Claudette Ortiz was born in Willingboro, New Jersey, USA on July 21,
1982. After starting singing at an early age, the talented young girl
with Afro-Puerto Rican roots, decided that she wanted wanted to be a
professional singer. She met her future partners Robbie Pardlo and Ryan
Toby when she was in high school, and they eventually formed a group,
City High. The group was named after the fact that they had met in high
school. Claudette began her professional career, though, by singing
commercials, intermixed with modeling. When Robby went to the recording
studio to work on a solo project, he was assisted by Claudette and Ryan
who added background vocals. It was Wyclef Jean who suggested that they
join to form the group, after which Wyclef Jean signed them to his Booga
Basement label. The trio eventually split up to follow solo careers.
Claudette continued to collaborate with Wyclef Jean on a number of
singles, and then with other artists, including Nas, Ja Rule, and Loon.
