Catherine Zeta Jones
Catherine Zeta-Jones was born in a small fishing village called Mumbles
(near Swansea), in Wales on September 25, 1969. Her Welsh father was
the manager of a candy factory and her Irish mother was a seamstress. It
was in the church dramatic society that Catherine's natural talents
emerged in singing and dancing that led to her being accepted into the
London musical, "Bugsy Malone" when she was only fourteen years old. She
played the part of Tallulah (The part made famous by Jodie Foster in the
movie). The excited producers signed her up for "The Pajama Game" and
later, at age seventeen, she had the lead role in "42nd Street" after
the original lead actress and understudy were unable to perform. With
the Producer appearing in the audience that night, he insisted that she
become the star, after which she completed the run, doing eight shows a
week, until the show closed in 1989.
