Asia Argento

Asia Argento was born Aria Anna Maria Vittoria Rossa Argento in Rome Italy, on September 20, 1975. Because the city's registry office refused to acknowledge "Asia" as a first name, they officially registered her as "Aria". In spite of this, she has used the name "Asia Argento" professionally. The daughter of Dario Argento, an Italian horror film director, producer, and screenwriter, and the actress Daria Nicolodi, Asia had a good headstart in moving towards an acting career. In 1989, she had the leading role in "Zoo" for which she won the Italian equivalent of a Golden Globe award. After a few other minor roles, her breakthrough role came in "Le Amiche Del Cuore" (1992) which was a critical success at the Cannes Film Festival. She was then directed by her father in her English-language film debut, "Trauma" (1993). She was soon to receive an Italian Best Actress award in 1994 for her performance in "Perdiamoci Di Vista!" Two years later, she repeated her success for "Compagna Di Viaggio," winning an additional "Grolla d'Oro" Award.

In 1998, Asia appeared in various Hollywood movies, including "New Rose Hotel" along with Christopher Walken. Able to work in many languages, including Italian, English, and French, she began in the mid 1990's to work as a director for short films. In 1996, she directed a documentary about her father and two years later, a documentary about Abel Ferrara which won her the Rome Film Festival Award. She wrote and directed her first movie in 2000, "Scarlet Diva." For years later, her second directorial effort came in the United States with "The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things" (2004).

Asia has also written many stories, and published her first novel in Italy in 1999 ("I Love You, Kirk"). When asked how she would like to be remembered, Asia replied: "As somebody who did everything, but didn't know how to do anything." Her first child was born in June 2001 (a girl), the father being an Italian rock and roll musician, Marco ("Morgan") Castoldi.
