Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie is a Gemini, the sign of the twins, born June 4, 1975
(Year of the Rabbit)
in Los Angeles. She grew up in LA, but lived variously in London and New
York. She trained and performed at the New York University and at the
Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, which has assisted many top actresses,
including
Rebecca De Mornay. She worked as a model in London, New York, and
LA, and appeared in a variety of music videos. Her first film was Cyborg
2, soon to be followed in a starring role in "Hackers" (1995) and
"Foxfire". She received both commercial and critical success in a movie
made for television about George Wallace, in which she played the role
of Cornelia Wallace. For her efforts, she won the Supporting Actress
Golden Globe. This was followed in 1998 by another Golden Globe, for
"Gia: The Tragic Story of a Supermodel," an HBO docu-drama. That same
year she appeared in "Playing By Heart" with a impressive cast that
included Gena Rowlands, Gillian Anderson, and Sean Connery. Subsequent
films culminated in a Best Supporting actress Academy Award for her role
as a sociopath in "Girl, Interrupted."
Born to Academy Award winner Jon Voight ("Midnight Cowboy") and actress
Marcheline Bertrand, she is probably best known as the healthy
adventurer, Lara Croft, a character inspired by the Tomb Raider computer
game (2001). A follow-up in the series two years later was a box office
success, despite being panned. Her mother was responsible for managing
the dynamic actress's career, but to avoid confusion with her father,
she chose her middle name to be her stage surname, dropping the name
Voight.
